What are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that the sites visited by the user send to their browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, etc.), where they are stored and then transmitted to the same sites the next time they visit the same user. During navigation on a site, the user can also receive cookies on their terminal of different websites or web servers (c.d. In other words, they are those cookies that are set by a website other than the one you are currently visiting. Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of "transmitting a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service" (cf. art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Code). Profiling cookies, on the other hand, are used to create user-related profiles and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same in the context of web browsing. They refer to art. 122 of the Code where it provides that "The storage of information in the terminal equipment of a contractor or user or access to information already stored is only permitted if the contractor or user has given his or her consent after being informed in a manner simplified procedures referred to in Article 13, paragraph 3" (art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Code).
